Defense of Anniversaries

Though it may seem quite silly
to write a short ditty
on the merits of anniversAries,
there's a serious purpose
to this eye-rolling circus--
yes, I know some think quite the contrary.

Most boys just don't get it
why that one day should merit
such ridiculous hype and elation,
but a gal has her reasons!
and when her guy can't sees-ems,
she'll expound without (much) altercation.

It's that special day's advent
which reminds us we may'nt
treat our sweethearts or lovers like old news,
Yes, we should do without it--
but as all will soon admit,
Daily life only teaches to abuse.

All high-minded ambition
tossed aside as tuition
or rent, food and diapers pile higher,
And before we turn 'round,
we'll find that we've drowned
in quotidian--put out the fire.

In short: the perfect advance
of a practical romance
is a reminder that we really care,
So try to remember
that-some-day in... December?
Just think of it, men, as a dare.
